The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they differ? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
