The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
