The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
