The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
