The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
