The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
