The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
