The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
