The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
