The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
