The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
