The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
