The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the angels who drag forth vehemently. 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 and will be followed by the second one, 7 Many a heart will flutter on that day! 8 and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. 9 They say, "What? shall we be brought back to life, 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!" 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 and they will be upon the surface of the earth (alive). 14 (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself 18 and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' 19 He showed him the mighty sign, 20 But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 And assembled (his council) and proclaimed, 23 And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
