The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 and those that blow gently, 2 and float [through space] with floating serene, 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 And those who arrange [each] matter, 5 On the day when the trembling one will tremble. (The disbelievers will certainly taste the punishment.) 6 And there will follow it the next blast. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They say, "What? shall we be brought back to life, 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 and behold, they are awakened. 14 HAS THE STORY of Moses ever come within thy ken. 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 and directed him: “Go to Pharaoh, he has rebelled, 17 and say: "Will you purify yourself, 18 And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" 19 And he showed him the tremendous token. 20 But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed. 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
