The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence; 1 and those that draw out violently, 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface. 14 Have you heard the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- 18 ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” 19 Then he shewed him the great sign. 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 Then gathered he and summoned 23 then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
