The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER those [stars] that rise only to set, 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 and those that outstrip suddenly 4 And then they manage the affair, 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up), 7 (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety. 8 While eyes are downcast 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 [But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry 13 and behold, they are awakened. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 saying, "Go to the Pharaoh. He has transgressed beyond all bounds. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you should fear Him?'" 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 and brusquely turned his back [on Moses]; 22 and gathered his people together 23 And said, "I am your most exalted lord." 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
