The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 by the angels who float (in the heavens by the will of God), 3 Then those who are foremost going ahead, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety. 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 even after we are fragmented bones' 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Have you received the story of Moses? 15 when his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; 20 But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!' 24 Thereupon Allah seized him for the chastisement of the World to Come as well as of the present. 25 Surely, in this there is a lesson for he that fears! 26
