He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
