He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
