He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
