He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
