He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 fruits, and grass. 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
