He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
