He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
