He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
