He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
