He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
