He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
