He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
