He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
