He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
