He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
