He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
