He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
