He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
