He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
