He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
