He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
