He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
