He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
