He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
