He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
