He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
