He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
