He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
