He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
