He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
