He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
