He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
