He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with blackness: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
