He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
